Song of Solomon Chapter 3
Sex Before Marriage.
There is some discrepancy on the proper layout of this chapter. Rather than get into all that, I want to focus on principles that we can all learn from and hopefully apply to our lives.
The woman longs for and looks for her lover. When she finds him she holds him and does not want to let him go. She wants to be with him forever and thinks of the days they will be able to be intimate in bed.
I pray my heart is steadfast and that I will never want to let go of my wife. When we dated I longed to be with her, and making love with her was something I looked forward to. We both wanted to be faithful to the Lord and not have sex till Marriage. I’m not saying it was easy to accomplish but by God’s Grace we entered into marriage as virgins.
In our world today, couples enter into relationships with no motivation to be faithful to God’s word. As a result, their lust and passion for sexual intimacy is acted upon very quickly in the relationship. Because they weren’t focusing on learning how to get along with their lover and not focusing on spiritual development, they were immature and not equipped to handle the relationship problems when they arose. As a result we see a lot of one parent homes. Or we see marriages ending very quickly.
For those who are married, it’s a battle to keep the marriage moving in the right direction. Once communication breaks down, Satan gets a foothold in the marriage and it begins to deteriorate. I would love to see husbands and wives have a weekend away with the intent of getting their marriage back where God wants it. A time where open communication can be done. And if the slightest conversation quickly escalates to arguing, then I would encourage even getting Christian counseling.
God, may those dating save themselves till marriage before having sex. May those who are married be faithful to one another. And may every relationship keep Christ in the forefront.
