Song of Solomon Chapter 1
“Remember When” We First Dated?
King Solomon lists several love poems between a man and a woman. The woman speaks to her man letting him know that she longs to be with him and longs for his love and kisses. She states that she admires his body fragrance.
“Remember When” we started liking or dating someone? We loved spending time together. We longed to be with one another. “Remember when” we commented with words of Love back and forth. We complemented each other expressing our love for one another.
The woman in this poem expresses her insecurity of her appearance but he responds with great words of love pointing out her attractive features.
Don’t we all have certain insecurities? Don’t we all long for our loved one to express Words of Love and words of compliments that build us up versus tearing us down? Don’t we all want words of encouragement?
Personally, I don’t want my relationship with my wife to be a relationship of “Remember When?” I want it to be what we can still experience now. So what do I/we have to do to get where we were? What type of communication needs to occur between us in order to enjoy what once was? What changes do I personally have to make? What changes would I like my friend/spouse to make? Maybe today’s the day to take that first step towards a renewed relationship. Yes, it would be nice if both parties could agree on moving forward in this way. But if you fear it will be one-sided, then you start the process of speaking words of love and encouragement and compliment. It’s a great starting point. It’s worth doing! You’re worth doing it for!
