Second Kings Chapter 3
Don’t Push Me Too Far
King Moab rebelled against Israel. So Israel decided to fight against Moab and invited the King of Judah to help him.
When King Moab saw that he was going to be defeated, he made one last attempt to save himself by sacrificing his own son as a burnt offering to his false god. When the king of Israel saw what he did they felt horrible because they felt they pushed the battle too far because his son’s life was taken in a brutal way. So they Departed from the battle.
I remember as a student in school that this one “bad” kid was rude to other students. This resulted in one of the other students fighting him between classes. I remember breaking up the fight because I knew the “bad” kid had a rough family life. Yes, he was rude and probably needed to be disciplined. But he also needed someone to come alongside him to encourage him through the pain he was experiencing. The kid was suicidal.
It’s not just enough to know the behavior of a person but to know the reasons behind the behavior. Since he was suicidal, I feel pushing this kid into a fight was going too far. Perhaps we should be more careful how we approach others so we don’t push them into doing something they shouldn’t do and we would regret them doing.
If someone is hurting, be a solution to the problem so as not to make the problem worse.
