Second Kings Chapter 19
Because I Prayed!
The king of Assyria sent men to Jerusalem to continually mock King Hezekiah, the people, and the Lord God. They threatened to destroy Judah as they have all the other nations before them.
King Hezekiah went before the Lord twice in humility and brokenness before God.
God answered through Isaiah the prophet saying that because King Hezekiah had prayed, God would bring victory to Judah without an arrow being shot. And that the king of Assyria would die by the sword in his own city.
God fulfilled His two prophecies:
1. In the night, an angel of the Lord struck and killed 185,000 Assyrians with no arrows shot.
2. When King of Assyria saw what happened he returned home only to be killed by two of his own people with the sword.
God responded to King Hezekiah’s prayer because:
1. He was broken before God in total humility.
2. He wanted God’s answer to be a testimony of God’s greatness so that others would know that he is the one and only true God.
Can you imagine how our prayers would change if we prayed with the same heart as king Hezekiah!?!
