Second Chronicles Chapter 26
Wow, I Am So Good!
At the age of 16, Uzziah became king in his father’s place. He reigned 52 years. He did right in the eyes of the Lord and he continued to seek God. May we never lose the drive to keep seeking God for our lives.
Uzziah became a great king with a great army and great success. As he became strong his heart became proud and he began to act corruptly and was unfaithful to God. He even entered the temple to burn incense which God said only the priests were allowed to do. When the priests confronted him he was enraged at them so God immediately struck Uzziah with leprosy which he had till his death.
King Uzziah had a drive to not just be a good King but to be a great king. I think lots of people want to be, not just good at what they do, but great! As a follower of Jesus, I want to be great at what I do. Here’s the dilemma: Do I want to be great for my glory (“Hey everybody look at me!”)? Or do I want to be great for the glory of God?
The greater we become at something, the more we have to keep evaluating our hearts before the Lord to ensure we don’t become proud and that God continues to be glorified in and through our lives. God use me in great ways, but help me to do all things for your glory and not mine.
