Ruth Chapter 2
Show Love And Kindness In The Name Of Jesus.
Ruth, the daughter-in-law to Naomi, have left Moab, the nation not serving God. They have now moved to Bethlehem where Naomi grew up. The place that serves the God of Israel.
Right away, Ruth wants to work gleaning the grain fields and hopes to find favor with a man for marriage. She’s a hard worker and her reputation of treating her mother-in-law with love and kindness is known amongst the people. Boaz, who owns the field she is gleaning, finds favor in her and treats her with great love and kindness. He protects her while she’s working in his field. Ruth is humbled by his love and kindness because she’s not from Bethlehem but from a nation that did not serve the living God.
But Boaz treats her with great love and kindness in the name of the Lord God of Israel. He proclaims his name to her.
God has a plan for her life which will unfold in later chapters. God also has a plan for our lives. May we do as God instructed Israel to do in Jeremiah 29:11-13. God said he has a plan for our lives and it becomes evident as we ask him and call upon him and seek him with all our hearts. God desires to draw us close to him, even though we’re not perfect.
There’s Hope for all of us. Don’t ever think that you or others are too far gone because of their background. You never know who God will draw to himself. Just as Boaz spoke kindly in the name of the Lord, may we also show love and kindness to others in the name of Jesus. Then see if God doesn’t touch and impact lives for him.
