Paul’s letter to Rome could be a letter sent to just about any City in this world. Rome is in need of the Salvation message and has gone from evil to more evil. Homosexuality is a huge issue. People know God’s truth and His desires, yet they pursue their own desires instead. They choose sinful desires over the righteousness of God. This is what we have to contend with today: a world not pursuing the righteousness of God found in Christ Jesus. Yes, they claim to know God, but their hearts are far from him.
As I read this, I can’t help but go back to the first six verses that sets the tone for all believers. We too, like Paul, are called to set ourselves apart from this world and take the gospel message of Jesus, our righteousness, to those lost in sin and in need of forgiveness and of a Savior.
Are we truly set apart from this world so we can share the righteousness of Christ… His Salvation?
Romans 1:20-21 stood out to me today.
“For His invisible attributes, namely, His eternal power and divine nature, have been clearly perceived, ever since the creation of the world, in the things that have been made. So they are without excuse. For although they knew God, they did not honor Him as God or give thanks to Him, but they became futile in their thinking, and their foolish hearts were darkened.”
This reminds me of a parody called Romans 1:20 that ApologetiX does of “Running on Empty” by Jackson Browne.
