Read Zechariah Chapter 11
Which Describes Us The Most? The Foolish Shepherd or The Godly Shepherd?
God speaks of his coming judgment because the people have rejected God and invested their time and energy in making money.
Zachariah was commanded by God to act as a shepherd and asks the people for his wages. He was given 30 shekels of silver which was an insignificant amount. It’s the amount given for a slave. This is the same price given to betray Jesus.
Then God told Zechariah, the prophet, to act as a Shepherd who didn’t care for his sheep. These were the traits describing the foolish Shepherd. See how different it is from Christ The Godly Shepherd:
1. The foolish Shepherd doesn’t care for the sheep that go astray but The Godly Shepherd seeks for the lost.
2. The foolish Shepherd will not seek the Young but The Godly Shepherd knows how important it is for all sheep to come to know the Lord.
3. The foolish Shepherd will not heal the broken, but the goal of The Godly Shepherd is to heal the brokenhearted.
4. The foolish Shepherd doesn’t feed the flock, but The Godly Shepherd faithfully feeds them.
5. The foolish Shepherd eats the flesh of the fattened sheep while the Good Shepherd lays down his life for the sheep.
The foolish Shepherd doesn’t care about the hurting. Do we? The Godly Shepherd describes Jesus and describes the type of Shepherd we should be to those around us. Jesus, the good shepherd, invests into the lives of the hurting and the lost. He is willing to lay down his life for the sheep so that they may be saved. How much are we willing to invest into the lost and hurting? We live in a world today that says focus on self more than you focus on others. Care for yourself and not for others. This describes exactly the qualities of a foolish Shepherd. God help me set aside my busy life so that those who are lost can find you and those who are hurting can be healed. Use me!
