Read Proverbs Chapter 14
My Head Is In A Whirlwind!
These two verses stuck out to me in this chapter:
Verse 21b: “…blessed is the one who is kind to the needy.”
Verse 31b: “…. Whoever is kind to the needy honors God.”
I struggle with this for there are so many expressed needs. I can’t keep up. My heart aches for those who are suffering and hurting. A mother has several health issues. She’s disabled. She has her daughter and four grandkids living in her home. The daughter has just recently quit doing drugs and alcohol. She has been clean for 4 months. She has a job, which she is so proud of herself. But it’s difficult raising her 4 kids as a single parent. We have helped her. Our church has helped them. They currently are out of money for food. It seems never ending. My head is in a whirlwind. And that’s just one of the many who have expressed needs. It can be overwhelming. So what do I do?
1. Praying is important. Philippians 4:6.
2. Pointing them to Jesus is important, as Peter did in Acts 3:6 to the crippled man.
3. Meeting the needs is important, Matthew 25:31-46.
4. Teaching them to be self-reliant is important, Galatians 6.
God, if I let it, all this could put my head in a spin. I feel inadequate when it comes to all these needs. Help!! Money is not pouring out of my pocket but I know you can meet their needs. I pray for your wisdom in what part you want me to play and what part you want the church to play. I pray for your Holy Spirit to intervene in a way that I cannot see or imagine.
Amen!
