Read Nahum Chapter 1
The Good News of Deliverance Is Coming.
Nahum, the prophet, speaks of a coming judgment against Nineveh. God is described as a jealous, avenging, and wrathful God. But it also says he is slow to anger and great in power and will not leave the guilty unpunished.
I wonder how many people in America really believe this. We have adopted a faith that emphasizes the “Love of God” so much, that it is as if he never punishes evil. We forget that God is a Holy God and he calls us to be Holy or face his righteous judgment.
For quite some time, Nineveh has held Judah in bondage but God declares Judah’s upcoming Deliverance. He is proclaimed as a big and mighty God. When he speaks, things happen: seas dry up, plantations wither, and mountains quake. His mere presence can cause an upheaval. And who thinks that they are greater than God that they could stand up and endure his wrath and anger? Certainly not me!
God declares to Judah that their affliction will only be for a period of time and then the yoke and shackles of the burdens from Nineveh will be broken from them. They will no longer have to endure the affliction for God will end the evil amongst them.
The people of Judah will be preached Good News of their upcoming deliverance from Nineveh.
Good News: Jesus came to Earth to set us free from the bondage of sin and the lies of deception. God wants you to be set free from things that are holding you back from God, and wants you to be set free from the lies that tell you you are no good and the lies that say God can’t use you.
CHALLENGE: Endure the affliction that you’re going through now. Remember, God is a BIG and MIGHTY GOD! He will bring you out of bondage and set you free from the shackles of this world.
