Read Micah Chapter 7
I’m A Fighter, Not A Quitter.
The prophet Micah is a role model of what a fighter looks like. May we all learn from his heart and attitude so that we are fighters in amongst our life circumstances rather than a quitter.
Micah acknowledges that their land has become impoverished. There are no grapes or figs anywhere to eat. All the godly and upright people are gone. All the people cause bloodshed. Doing evil has become so natural to them. The leaders accept bribes. No one can be trusted. Families are at war against each other. Yet amongst all the horrible circumstances surrounding Micah, he says this in verse 7:
“But as for me I watch in Hope of the Lord, I wait for God my Savior, my God will hear me.”
These are powerful words! May God help us all to have this same heart and attitude. Let’s break this verse down:
1. “I watch in Hope of the Lord.” It doesn’t say he’s ” looking for hope” but he is actually watching WITH HOPE, meaning he is anticipating the work of God in his life.
2. “I wait for God my Savior.” Micah is not giving up. Rather than complain about his life circumstances, and complain against God, he stands in confidence that God will save him from his horrible circumstances.
3. “My God will hear me!” He doesn’t say “I wonder if God will hear me?” He says my God “WILL Hear Me!”
I pray that we could say these words when surrounded by chaos and disaster.
But Micah doesn’t stop here. He says more words that demonstrate that he is a fighter and not a quitter.
In verse 8-10, Micah says these words:
“Though I fall, I will get back up. Though I dwell in darkness, the Lord is a light for me. I will bear the indignation of the Lord.” Or as one person said, ” I will bear what is perceived as unfair treatment.”
“God will bring me out to the light and I will see his righteousness.”
This is where we need to be, in the light where God is. If we are walking in darkness, we can’t see God’s truth and holiness. May we all walk in the light so we can be holy before God and others.
“Then those who said to me, Where is your God, they will be put to shame.”
I want my life to be a testimony to others to not be a quitter but to always, always, always, be a fighter. When you fall down, you get back up. You will not stay down. You are empowered by God’s SPIRIT not by your EMOTIONS during your chaos or disaster.
