Read Micah Chapter 5
There’s A New Sheriff In Town.
Micah 5 is a prophecy of the coming of Jesus to Earth.
Vs 1: The day is coming when God will strike Israel. A war will break out and God will humble them and even strike down the judge of Israel. It will be a sad time … BUT!!!!!!! Good News! During this time of humiliation for Israel, God declares a new sheriff is coming into town. Okay, not a new sheriff, but a NEW RULER. This is a prophecy of the coming birth of Jesus who will reign in righteousness and holiness. This prophecy is fulfilled in Matthew 2:1-6. Read it.
Bethlehem was small among the 12 clans of Judah, yet God ordained this insignificant tribe to be the birthplace of his son.
Vs 4: “He will rise and Shepherd his flock in the strength of the Lord, in the Majesty of the name of the Lord his God … He will be great to the ends of the earth.”
Vs 10-15: When the new sheriff / ruler comes into town, he will restore Israel back to holiness. He will cut off everything Israel put their hope and trust into and everything they bowed to. This includes their military, the cities and all their idols, their sorcerers, their carved idols and sacred pillars.
Jesus will restore holiness back to his people.
As a sheriff comes into town to restore law and order, Jesus came to restore holiness, be our Savior, and also to be a Shepherd to his people. He came that we might have life and have it to the fullest: a joy filled life even amongst our worst circumstances.
Israel looked for joy for their lives in the things of the world. God humbled them first so he could restore them back to him in holiness. All too often, today, we are looking for joy and restoration in the things of this world and we let it define who we are. But we must let go of the things of this world and allow Jesus to be our Savior and our Joy. We must allow him to Shepherd Our lives – to guide and lead us down the path that he ordained for us which includes holiness. What needs to be restored in your life today? What or who are you relying on for that restoration? Yourself, other people or the Lord God Almighty?
