Read Micah Chapter 1
“Don’t Make Me Get Your Father!”
God spoke through the prophet, Micah, saying to the nations of Judah and Israel. “All of you, Listen!” This means God is serious and you better listen and it would be wise to have fear within you.
It’s like my parents getting us 4 kids together when we were fighting, and my father would start by saying, LISTEN UP. In frustration, he would basically tell us kids to QUIT FIGHTING and KNOCK IT OFF or things are going to get pretty “UGLY!” Us kids knew he was serious and yes, we were afraid.
The Lord told Judah and Israel he was coming down from his place to their place and would destroy the arrogance of his people. He said they will become a heap of ruins.
God will destroy their idols. All their earnings would be burned because they made money their god. And many would die or go into exile.
Again, I’m reminded of my father. If one of my siblings said I’m going to go tell Dad what you did, I was scared. If my dad had to come down and settle a matter, there was never any hugging and kissing. He laid the law. We were afraid.
We lack fear in our world today. Sin is becoming just an everyday behavior. The mentality is, we can do whatever we want. The things of this world become our gods and it’s like it’s no big deal.
Sin is a horrible, horrible thing. With sin comes God’s Wrath. Does that not bother anyone? Where is the fear of punishment for our sins? I’m guilty! I do things and treat it like it’s no big deal before God.
Thank you Jesus, that with you, there is forgiveness. But Lord, help me to hate sin, especially my own, and stop doing it.
