Read Matthew Chapter 16:13-16.

Who Do You Say Jesus Is?

When Jesus came into the District of Caesarea Philippi, he began asking his disciples, “Who do people say that the Son of Man is?” Jesus was referring to himself.
The disciples answered saying, “Some say John the baptist, or Elijah, Jeremiah or one of the other prophets.” Then Jesus asked them directly, “Who do you say that I am?” Simon Peter answered, “You are the Christ, the Son of the Living God.” Jesus let it be known that it wasn’t flesh and blood that revealed this truth to Simon but it was revealed by God the Father who is in heaven.
This is a question we all need to answer. Who do we say Jesus is? In our world today I feel the answers will be completely different than how they answered 2,000 years ago. Here’s how I feel people might answer this question today, “Who do you say Jesus is?
1. He is a puppet! When we want something we just have to tell Jesus and he has to listen to us. In other words, the will of God is not near as important as the will of the person.
2. Jesus was just a good person. In other words, he’s no longer significant today. He just was and he is no more. Now we might be quick to shoot this one down, but maybe some so-called Christians live their faith as if Jesus no longer exists because they do not yield to the Holy Spirit whatsoever because they are driven by their own flesh and blood.
3. Some will call Jesus the Son of God and Savior of the world! In fact, they believe it so much they have surrendered their lives completely to him. They want to follow him no matter what. They want to proclaim Christ to the world.
So who do you say Jesus is? Or better yet, in your heart who do you say Jesus is? Because how you answer it with your heart may not be the same as how you answer it with your lips. Your lips can say anything, but your heart reveals what you really believe about Jesus. And how you really believe is determined on how you live your life! Who do you really say Jesus is?
