Read Matthew Chapter 15:21-28
You’re Not Ignored! Let Faith Prevail!
Jesus went to 2 Gentile cities, Tyre and Sidon, where he met a Canaanite woman who came to Jesus crying out, “Have Mercy on me, oh Lord, Son of David; my daughter is cruelly demon-possessed.” But Jesus ignored her. In fact, she became so annoying to the disciples they were telling Jesus to send her away. Finally Jesus said to her, “I was sent only to the lost sheep [the Jews] of the House of Israel.” She responded by bowing down before Jesus. She was persistent and said, “Lord, help me!” Jesus responded, “It’s not good to take the children’s bread [the Jewish blessings] and throw them to the dogs [to Non-Jews].”
The woman was still persistent and said, “Yes, Lord, but even the dogs [the non-Jews] feed on the crumbs [blessings] that fall from their Master’s [Jesus’s] table.
The woman was acknowledging that though she was not a Jew, she still recognized Jesus as the Messiah and she had faith that even the smallest blessing from Jesus was enough to heal her daughter. Jesus proclaimed to the woman that her faith was great and healed her daughter at once.
There are times we may feel UNWORTHY of the Lord’s BLESSINGS, but know that Jesus LOVES YOU! Your needs matter to him. He hears your cries. It may seem as if he is IGNORING YOU, but he’s testing to see if you have faith, like the non-Jewish woman. And though she felt “ignored” she was persistent. She didn’t give up. She had faith and Jesus healed her daughter. Let us be persistent even if we feel ignored, and let our faith prevail. I may not know what your circumstances are, but Jesus does and he loves you and he hears you, so don’t give up! Keep the Faith!
