Trust and Faith Produces Fruit. Worry Kills It.
As the sower was planting seeds, some fell among the thorns and as the thorns grew up they choked out the seeds. Jesus explained that this is equivalent to the person who hears the word of God, receives it, but the worries of this world and the deceitfulness of riches chokes the word so that there’s no fruit in one’s life. Worry and money seem to be two big killers of seeing fruit for the Lord in one’s life. It can stifle and even kill the heart of a person. A biblical definition of worry is, “a feeling of anxiety and uneasiness about the future, and a lack of trust in God’s purposes. Worry can be the opposite of faith and can cause fear to replace faith.” You have a need and you wonder if God can take care of it, so you worry. You try and take control of the situation but it doesn’t work. You’re forced to trust and have faith but you let your worry kill your faith.
1st Timothy 6:10 says that “The Love of money is the root of all kinds of evil. Some people who are eager for money have wandered from the faith and pierced themselves with many griefs.” In this battle of being in control, one often turns to riches to meet their needs only to be consumed with money as their pursuit of God diminishes. The end result of both worry and riches kills your testimony and impact for the kingdom.
What do you worry about? Are you trying to be in control? How’s that working out for you? At some point, you have to LET GO and LET GOD!
Lack of finances and worry seem to be two common denominators in my life that challenges my faith and trust. More than once in my prayer time have I said, “God, I can’t do this. I’m letting it go into your hands. I choose to trust you so do a miracle and I’ll give you all the glory.”
If you can’t let it go, even daily, it will consume you and choke you far from God. As a result there will be little or no fruit for the Lord.
God, help us all to WORRY LESS and TRUST a WHOLE LOT MORE.
