Why Is Your Heart So Hard?
One day Jesus was sitting by the sea and a great multitude of people gathered around him. Now what do you do? Jesus saw this as an opportunity to share God’s truth. When God puts people in our paths, I pray we see it as opportunities to share the love of Jesus versus ignoring the opportunities. Jesus got into a boat and spoke to the people on the beach and he shared 8 parables with them.
The first parable was the parable of the four types of soils that the sower planted seeds amongst.
The sower represents one who’s sharing God’s word. The seed is God’s word. The soils represent four types of hearts that hear God’s Word.
1. The Hard Soil: some seeds fell by the road which was hard soil so that the seed did not penetrate the soil and as a result the birds came and ate them. This is compared to a person who has a hard heart. They hear the word of God and don’t understand it, so the evil one snatches away any truth that they heard. What type of person might this relate to? Would love to hear your thoughts!
A. Perhaps it relates to a person who grew up in a family that wanted nothing to do with God. So when they hear the truth it only comes across as foolishness. It doesn’t make sense to them. I graduated from high school with the lady who was an atheist. She sent her children to an atheist camp. The atheist doctrine was ingrained in their heart so that God’s truth was quickly rejected. Sadly the daughter died last year from cancer. The mother Did Not ask for prayer on Facebook, but did ask for positive vibes. This is a sad state to be in.
B. Perhaps it’s a person who is so “rational” that their reasoning is based solely on the natural realm, that which can be seen. So to think that there is a God who loves them is foolishness. It doesn’t make rational sense to them.
If you know someone that falls into these categories, it would be good to keep loving them with God’s love. Let them experience God’s love through you and allow the Holy Spirit to slowly chip away the hard wall between them and God’s Truth.
1 Corinthians 1:18 says, “For the message of the Cross is foolishness to those who are perishing but to us who are being saved it is the power of God.”
