Read Matthew Chapter 12:30-33
Am I For Or Against Jesus? Am I Gathering Or Scattering For Jesus?
After the religious leaders had accused Jesus of casting out demons by the spirit of a demon, Jesus confronts them yet again. Jesus was operating under the Spirit of God and his work gave testimony of God. But the Pharisees rejected the work of God’s spirit calling it the devil’s work. They are on dangerous grounds. Jesus says in verse 30, “He who is not with me is against me and he who does not gather with me scatters.”
If we are led by the spirit of God then we will be for Jesus; and if we are led by the spirit of God then the things we say and do will help gather and point people to Jesus. If people observe my life, does it give testimony of the life of Jesus and help point them to Jesus, or not?
Peer pressure is a tool the devil uses to help destroy the testimony of our faith. I don’t have to say what peer pressure looks like, as Christians we know when the devil is tempting us. It’s these times our faith walk is under a microscope and it’s in these times I pray that God helps us all be faithful. Lord help us!
But Jesus addresses yet another issue: Blasphemy of the Holy Spirit. He says this is an unforgivable sin. What does “Blasphemy of the Holy Spirit” look like? I’m not saying I’m the most knowledgeable person to answer this question but I truly believe it’s a person whose heart is so hard against God and Jesus. Such individuals fight against any miracle or any act that points anyone towards Jesus. This isn’t a person who messes up and later on regrets it. This is a person who never regrets it and never wants to repent of it. So if we ever mess up and our heart yearns for forgiveness and for repentance, then we have not committed this blasphemy.
Regardless, I feel it is important for us to do everything possible to not allow our heart to be hardened. May we, then, stay grounded in the Word of God and in the Fellowship of other Christians. Let’s take steps towards being faithful, and if we mess up, go to the Lord with a repentive heart!
