Read Matthew Chapter 12:1-8
Get your Priorities Straight.
There was a problem that Jesus addressed with the religious leaders. Laws are great but once laws end up preventing people from being taken care of, the law is no longer productive. For example, the law was “no working on the Sabbath.” This is a great law but God never intended for people’s needs to be neglected. That’s why in Hosea 6:6, God says I desire COMPASSION over the needy verses fulfilling SACRIFICES made in the Temple of God.
Jesus also said in John 13:34-35, “I give you a new commandment, love one another…” When you neglect the command to “not work on the Sabbath” so you can help somebody in need, you’re fulfilling the new commandment of loving others and showing compassion which is greater than the law of “no working on the Sabbath.”
So when the Pharisees confronted the disciples of Jesus for eating grain on the Sabbath, Jesus defended them because they were in need.
So what are your priorities? Are you all about doing religious things that you neglect people and their needs?
Perhaps you are really good at tithing, going to church, praying at every meal, reading your Bible, and maybe you even teach Sunday school. If so, these are great practices and habits to incorporate in your Christian faith.
BUT!!!!!!!!! Before you pat yourself on the back for being such a great Christian, answer this question, “Are you compassionate towards others in loving them, helping them, and meeting their needs?”
Let’s make sure we’ve got our priorities straight!
