Read Matthew Chapter 11:20-24
What More Did Jesus Have To Do In Order To Capture Our Hearts To Follow Him?
It says, “Then Jesus began to denounce the cities in which most of his miracles had been performed because they did not repent.” Jesus confronts the city of Chorazin and Capernaum and is astonished because even after he does great miracles, they still don’t repent from their sins and follow him. He compares them to three very evil cities saying, if Tyre, Sidon, and Sodom would have experienced the same miracles, they would have repented and done so in sackcloth and ashes, meaning with much grief.
But because they have not repented, Hades (Hell) awaits them. In fact, Jesus says that the judgment that awaits these three previous cities will be more tolerable than the Judgment that now awaits Chorazin and Capernaum.
Basically, Jesus was saying to Chorazin and Capernaum, “What more did I have to do in order to capture your heart to repent and follow me?” Yet, in reality, Jesus went even further by doing the ultimate miracle for us. He took on our punishment by being beat when he did nothing wrong. He shed his blood for the forgiveness of our sins. He died in our place, but then Rose from the dead, defeating death. So we, who repent and put our faith and trust in Jesus, and follow him, will be forgiven of our sins and raised into a new life with the Lord: a new and changed life.
So now it could be said to us: “What more could Jesus have done for us?” NOTHING!!! He already did the ultimate by laying down his life for us. So if we reject him now, an eternal hell awaits us and we won’t be able to tolerate it. It’s our choice!! What do you choose?
