What Are The Storms Of Your Life?
It says that Jesus got into the boat to go to the other side and his 12 disciples followed him into the boat. They got into the boat with Jesus and a great storm came. Jesus is with them but he’s sleeping and the disciples were afraid for their lives. They think they’re going to perish and die. They call out to Jesus to save them and he responds, “You of little faith, why are you so afraid?” Jesus then stepped in and rebuked the winds and the sea and it became perfectly calm. The disciples marveled at how even the winds and the waves obeyed him.
Isn’t this a picture of our lives? We Face many storms of life. Storms can come when we are walking faithfully with the Lord, or they can come when we are walking in disobedience to the Lord.
When we are walking faithfully with the Lord, it doesn’t mean we won’t face storms in our lives. The disciples got into the boat with Jesus. They probably felt some security in getting in the boat with Jesus, thinking, “What could go wrong? We’re with Jesus!”
We could get up in the morning and have the best devotions with Jesus, be driving to work praising him in songs, and all of a sudden have a storm hit us and hit us hard. How will we respond? Do we realize that Jesus is with us always? Even when we think he is asleep. We don’t need to be afraid for your fear reveals your lack of faith. Storms are for growing purposes so we can be conformed into the image of Christ.
When we are walking in disobedience to the Lord, we could say, “Hey, I brought this storm on myself. I have no one to blame but myself.” But even then, when we cry out the Lord, he will come alongside us because he loves us and wants to put hope back into our lives.
Storms in my life have revealed different sides of my faith. I’ve whined and complained to God. I’ve been fearful of the future. I’ve been strong with my faith with great testimonies. And I’ve been horrible with my faith like an unbeliever. No matter what your storm is, or how it came to be, Jesus is near and wants to use it as an opportunity to help conform us more and more into the image of himself. God, help us all?
