Read Matthew 7:21-23
Am I Thinking I’m Something That I’m Not?
Yesterday I mentioned how Jesus said many are on the path that leads to destruction, hell. And he said only a few are on the path that leads to heaven. Today, in verse 21, Jesus said, “Not everyone who says to me, ‘Lord, Lord,’ will enter into the kingdom of heaven; but the one who does the will of my father who is in heaven.”
This is a scary thought! There are those who will be deceived into thinking they are “saved from the penalty of sin” but won’t be because they have a head knowledge of Jesus but aren’t followers of Jesus. They don’t do the WILL OF GOD but live their life doing their own will or following their own desires.
In verse 22, Jesus also says, “MANY” will think they’re going to heaven because they did some “good things” for the Lord, but Jesus will say to them, “I never knew you; depart from me you who practice lawlessness.” They sound like the individuals who sit on both sides of the fence. They live for God on certain days, but their heart is really for living for the world, practicing sin rather than repenting from their sin. They act like it’s no big deal to live in sin as long as they go to church, pray at meals, tithe their money, or sing in the choir.
Jesus was serious when he said:
1. Many will be deceived into taking the wide path that leads to hell.
2. Many will produce bad fruit only to be cast into the Fire.
3. Many will claim to be Christians but will hear Jesus say, “Depart from me,” because they didn’t do the will of God and they PRACTICED SIN rather than REPENT FROM SIN.
God, show me my sin. Help me repent of my sin so that I’m not deceived into thinking I’m something that I’m not. Amen!
