Read Matthew 7:13-20
The Search for THE Way, THE Truth, THE Life.
Jesus says to enter by the narrow gate. Why?
1. Because the Wide Gate and the Broad Way leads to destruction – exclusion from Heaven. Many are those who ENTER by it.
2. But the Small Gate and the Narrow Way leads to life – heaven – the Messiah’s Kingdom. Few are those who find it.
It says that the way to destruction is the more popular path and many on this Earth will enter by it. In other words, it’s a choice. You enter on your own free will. You weren’t pushed in. You weren’t forced in. You chose this path. You were deceived. It looked good to you. It looked fun. Popular. Fulfilling. But it leads to destruction, death, separation from God.
The small gate or narrow road says few find it. This gives the thought that we are all looking for “life.” We’re all looking for the right path for our lives. If we define life as only what we experience on Earth, then it is easy to think, let’s eat, drink, and be merry. Let’s enjoy life now while we are alive. Let’s fulfill every flesh desire we have because this is the only life we have. This is destruction for our souls.
But if we define life on Earth as a temporary home, or temporary opportunity to make choices for our future eternal home, then hopefully the message of Jesus and his Salvation makes much more sense to us.
Does your life choices represent one who is pursuing the Wide Path or the Narrow Path? How will we know who’s heading down which path? Verse 16-20 says you’ll know them by their fruits. The heart that is pursuing the right path will produce good fruit and the heart that is pursuing the deceptive path is an evil heart, and only bad fruit can come from an evil heart.
Perhaps we should ask ourselves this question, “Is my life producing good fruit or bad fruit?” Or better yet, ask a God-fearing person if they see good or bad fruit in your life. Let’s get on the right path!
