Baptism! What’s That All About?
As we read verse 19, we already stated that as you are going, you are to be making disciples for Christ. This includes baptizing believers in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit. This baptism is not just done in the name of a god, but in the name of our Father God who created us and predestined us to live a holy life in Christ (Ephesians 1:4). This is only possible when it’s done in the name of Jesus who died for the forgiveness of our sins. Also in the name of the Holy Spirit who empowers us to be able to live a new and transformed life.
2 Corinthians 5:17 “Therefore if anyone is in Christ they are a new creation. The old person is gone and the new person has come.”
Baptism is the washing away of our sins into a new life with Christ.
Baptism is a commitment to no longer live by the flesh but according to the spirit.
Baptism can also act as a testimony to others of your new faith walk with Christ.
I hate to ask this question, but have you been baptized? The only reason I don’t like to ask this question is because I’ve seen people get baptized, and a few weeks later you don’t see them in church anymore.
You don’t get baptized just so you can say, “I’ve been Baptized!” Baptism is something you should take very very seriously. Baptism should be symbolic of this deep heartfelt desire to be cleansed of your sins and a burning desire and commitment to live a new life in Christ. People should be seeing an ongoing transformation in your life. It should never be something you do so you can check the box that says, “I’ve been baptized.”
So let me ask this question again, “Have you had a deep heartfelt desire to be baptized for the cleansing of your sins, followed by a burning desire to commit to living a new and transformed life with Jesus? If not, I pray that you will!
