Read Matthew 27:57-61.
It’s Friday, But Sunday Is Coming!
The burial of Jesus, after his death, was pretty routine. A man asked for Jesus’s body, who then took it to one of his tombs that he owned and had Jesus put inside. Then a large Stone was rolled in front of the tomb. Mary Magdalene and the other Mary were also there. These were the ladies that loved Jesus, followed Jesus, and supported Jesus. How nice for them to be there during the burial rituals. This took place on a Friday night. It’s over! All the dreams of Jesus being the one who would deliver the Jews from the Romans was gone. All the desires and hopes they had for a beautiful future were gone. Jesus is dead. Everything around them, all the evidence before them, everything pointed to the fact that Jesus was dead and there’s no hope for tomorrow. But what they couldn’t see, was all that was happening behind the scenes. Everything was coming together as God had planned; and eventually they would see Jesus again. Only this time, they would see him as the Savior who gives hope for all humankind. Yes, it was Friday night but Sunday was coming.
Perhaps you feel, “It’s Over!” My life is over! My job is over! My future is over! Everything points to “It’s Over!” All the evidence points to “It’s Over!” There is no hope for my future. But God is still at work behind the scenes. All you see is death. It’s still Friday night but Sunday is coming. The hope of newness is coming, so hold on! Persevere! Don’t give up! Don’t let circumstances you see determine your outcome! God is at work behind the scenes and Sunday is coming. Hope is not lost. Hold on to hope! Don’t let it slip from your hands. God is not done yet. Sunday is coming!
