Read Matthew 27:11-26
Part 1 – God Knew and God Knows.
The chief priests and the elders had Jesus bound and taken before Pilate, the Roman governor of Judea. Their motive was to have Jesus put to death.
Pilate questioned Jesus and asked if he was the King of the Jews. Jesus said Yes! But the chief priests and elders kept making false accusations against Jesus in order to get him crucified. Jesus did not defend himself.
None of this makes sense. Typically speaking, when we are accused falsely, we want to defend ourselves. We want to be declared innocent. Deep in our hearts we know that we are innocent. However, that wasn’t Jesus’s goal. He wasn’t out to prove his innocence. He was out to do the will of His Father. God’s will was for him to die for the sins of the world. To fight for his innocence would mean he was fighting so he wouldn’t have to go to the cross. But he DID want to go to the cross for us. So he was silent.
Pilate, on the other hand, knew Jesus was innocent and temporarily tried to defend and release Jesus. But the chief priests and elders did everything they could to stir up the crowd against Jesus, to the point that a riot almost broke out. Whether Jesus was innocent or not, was not important to them. The people had already drew their conclusion about Jesus, and nothing was going to change their mind. But GOD KNEW he was innocent. GOD KNEW he was the King of the Jews, the Messiah. God declared Jesus innocent and it didn’t matter what others thought. It didn’t change the truth about Jesus.
As a result, Jesus carried out his purpose resulting in Salvation available to the world.
Now none of us are Jesus. We all have failed. There are sins that I have committed that if anybody knew about them, it would tarnish my name, my witness, my testimony. Over the years I have done things I’m not proud about. But that doesn’t define who I am. I’m in Christ. There is no more condemnation. I’m a new person. I’m not who I was. GOD KNOWS who I am. He loves me and He desires me to do his will. I will be faithful. If people bring up my past and make accusations against me, or make up false accusations against me, my innocence will be declared, not because of my debating skills, but because of my life testimony. When people get locked in their mind what type of person you are, your best defense is usually silence and your life testimony. GOD KNOWS who you are. GOD KNOWS what purpose he has for you. Let him carry out that purpose so that his righteous plan can be fulfilled.
