Our Arrogance is Toxic.
Jesus speaks to the multitude and his disciples exposing the hypocrisy of the scribes and Pharisees. This is after many days of the Pharisees, and their disciples, along with the Teachers of the Law, the Sadducees, and the Herodians have attacked Jesus with deceptive words in hopes of destroying Jesus. Jesus tried to warn them and help them with truth but they wanted nothing to do with it. So now he’s exposing their hypocrisy so that others are not infected by their corruption and sin. They preach God but they don’t obey God. So Jesus warns the people not to follow their ways.
God is a compassionate God. He will try and warn us if we are on the wrong path. He’ll speak to you through his Holy Spirit and even send people your way to help point you in the right direction. But if in our arrogance we become blind to the truth and we don’t heed God’s call, then he will expose our sin in hopes of humbling us to the point where we see our sin, and then repent from our sin. The goal is to break our arrogance so that we walk in humility before God and no longer in arrogance.
If we are walking in sin, we become toxic to those around us. We lead people astray with our decisions.
Lord, please, with your compassion, show us our arrogant ways. Remove the blinders from our eyes so that we see Your Truth and Walk In Your Truth. May we heed your call so that we are not humiliated before others because of our sin. Amen!
