Read Matthew 20:29-34
Are You Blind? Can’t You See What You Are Doing To Yourself?
As Jesus and his followers were leaving Jericho, a great multitude followed him. Two blind men were sitting by the road and they heard that Jesus was passing by. Imagine for a moment a crowd of people getting excited that Jesus is passing by. They could see him except for the two Blind Men. But they could hear that he was passing by. So they called out to Jesus saying, “Lord, have mercy on us, son of David!” But the crowd told him to be quiet. Here’s an opportunity for these blind Men to be healed. There always seems to be somebody who doesn’t want to see people set free from blindness. And they tell you to be quiet. They don’t understand the suffering you’ve gone through, and the pain and turmoil.
But these two blind Men are determined so they just called out all the more. Then something happened!
1. JESUS STOPPED because he heard their cries even amongst those trying to hold them back.
2. JESUS CALLED THEM asking what can I do for you?
3. THE BLIND MEN CONFESSED, We are blind and we want to see!
4. JESUS’S COMPASSION moved him to action.
5. JESUS TOUCHED their eyes.
6. THE BLIND REGAINED their sight.
7. The Blind Men FOLLOWED JESUS.
Are you Blind? Are you trapped in sin and CAN’T SEE what it is doing to you? Are you trapped in despair or trapped in a sin, or an addiction or something unhealthy like a relationship? You’ve been trapped for so long that you can’t see how anything could get better. You feel the sin or lie you’re living in is just how it is going to be for the rest of your life!
NO!!! Jesus doesn’t want you being blinded from the truth. He wants to set you free. Follow these same steps for freedom that the blind men took:
1. CRY OUT to Jesus. You have to want to be set free. Not just a “Ho Hum” cry, but a cry of Brokenness. A cry that says, I don’t want to live like this anymore. I’m ready to do what is necessary no matter what it takes.
2. When Jesus hears that kind of cry he will STOP AND LISTEN!!! He loves you so much. He wants to set you free.
3. CONFESS to Jesus your Brokenness, your Addiction, your Despair. Acknowledge that you have a problem! Quit trying to take care of it on your own. Quit listening to those who say, “Come on! It’s no big deal.” Quit trying to be a “tough guy.” Quit being afraid to acknowledge a problem because you feel it will mean you are weak or not perfect. Listen, nobody is perfect. We all need Jesus! We all need one another! CONFESSION is the step towards freedom. DENIAL will kill your spirit, your relationships, your life.
4. RECEIVE the touch of Jesus. Confession opens the door for Jesus to work. Jesus wants to intervene in your situation and set you free. For some it will be immediate. For others, it’s a “process.” It’s God taking you through it and teaching you along the way. It’s during this time that he will make you more and more like himself.
5. Now what? FOLLOW JESUS! When Jesus works in and through your life and does a miracle, don’t walk away as if he didn’t do anything. Follow him! Don’t use him for deliverance only to turn your back on him. Fall in love with him and follow him 100%.
I pray that you let Jesus set you free! He’ll never give up on you. He will use people to help and encourage you as well. Don’t give up!!!!!!!!!
