Read Matthew 19:25-26
Help Holy Spirit! I Can’t Give It Up.
The rich man refused to give up his idol, his possessions, the very thing that he allowed to hinder his relationship with the Lord. It was then that Jesus said to his disciples, how hard it was for a rich man to enter the kingdom of God. Hearing this, the disciples were astonished because money is such a necessity. We need money. So the disciples responded, “Then who can be saved?” I mean our lives center around money. Every working day of our lives is about “making money” and paying bills, and trying to get ahead in life so we can live more comfortably. So then who can be saved? This affects a lot of people!
Jesus responded, “it’s impossible for the power of man to accomplish this. But with the power of God, all things are possible!” There is a way to have money and not be controlled by it. There’s a way to be blessed by money and thus be a blessing to others because of it. There’s a way to give up one’s idols that you put ahead of God. All this can be accomplished through the power of the Holy Spirit.
We are capable of giving up relationships that become our god! We are capable of giving up anyone or anything that has become our idol or our god.
Yesterday, I challenged you to give up the very thing or person that has become your idol and has hindered your relationship with the Lord. I acknowledge the fact that to do so is not easy, particularly if it has been a huge part of one’s life for so long. Today’s challenge is: Acknowledge the fact that you can’t do it, but with the empowerment of the Holy Spirit, you can. Surrender it to the Lord, daily if you have to. In doing so he will make you new. Focus on the new life that the Lord has for you versus focusing on what you may have to give up in order to be living in obedience with the Lord. The thing you give up on Earth does not compare to the surpassing blessings you’ll receive in heaven.
I’m not saying this happens all the time, but sometimes the very thing you give up to the Lord is the very thing you get back because you’ve learned to see it as a blessing from God, that is used to be a blessing for others, and for God’s glory.
