Read Matthew 19:10-12
Sexual / Physical Fulfillment And Spiritual Fulfillment
As Jesus was speaking to his disciples about divorce between a man and woman, Peter made the comment that maybe it’s just better not to get married. Jesus responded by saying, not everyone can accept this statement only those who have been given a gift or ability to do so. We all know our bodies are made in a certain way so that it’s common to have a drive for sexual fulfillment. At the same time, God has called us to hunger and thirst for spiritual fulfillment – having a hunger and thirst for his Righteousness and his Word. We are called to be “Kingdom of Heaven” minded.
But Jesus knew that choosing not to get married would be difficult for many because of that inner drive for sexual relationships. So He had a conversation about eunuchs. A eunuch is a male person who has been castrated or has had their external genitals removed. This means they greatly lose their desire for sexual intercourse.
Jesus goes on to say that:
1. Some males were born eunuchs. They were born with genital issues so that they lack the sex drive.
2. Some males are eunuchs because they have had their genitals removed. And lastly, Jesus said:
3. Some are not born eunuchs, nor have they been castrated, but they decided in their heart not to marry and not to have sex so they can devote more of their time for the Kingdom Of Heaven. Jesus said that if you were able to accept this then great. But not everyone can.
Apostle Paul, in 1st Corinthians 7:1-9, talked about this very subject of not marrying / or remarrying so that one could devote themselves for the Lord’s work.
1. Paul said that it’s good for the unmarried to abstain from having sex, but many don’t have that self-control so then it is better for them to marry than burn in hell because of having sex outside of marriage.
2. Paul alluded to the fact, in verse 7 and 8, that he has chosen to be unmarried so he can devote more to the work of the Kingdom of Heaven.
Okay, reality check! Does that sound like you? Do you have the willpower or self-control to abstain from sexual activity so you can devote more time for the Lord? Don’t laugh! I know a married couple who have chosen that route for the rest of their married life. They chose to forfeit their sexual fulfillment so they can devote more time to their spiritual fulfillment.
But to the unmarried, do you have that self-control and willpower to abstain from sexual fulfillment so you can focus more on spiritual fulfillment? If not, then it is better to marry. But if you choose to marry, you should never abort the call to be a Kingdom Builder. You and your spouse should be like minded when it comes to spiritual fulfillment and development. You both should be Kingdom-minded. Yes, enjoy the sexual fulfillment that married couples have, but never forfeit the spiritual fulfillment that God wants for your lives.
