Read Matthew 18:1-6
I Love Getting Recognition! Part 1
The disciples asked Jesus, “Who then is the greatest in the Kingdom of Heaven?” At that time Jesus called a child to himself to give an object lesson. Jesus said, “The greatest in the Kingdom of Heaven is the one who is converted or changed and becomes like a child.” What does that mean? Jesus explains:
“The one who learns to humble themselves like a child is the greatest in the Kingdom.” I can’t help but feel that if a person is asking who’s the greatest, that somehow they are struggling with humility. It’s like they want people to see how great they are. They brag and boast and do so in order to get the glory on themselves. True humility is not about getting the recognition. We should want God to be glorified. We should want to lift others up before ourselves. We should want others to look good, and blossom, and flourish in their God-given gifts.
What about you? What are your God given gifts? What is it that you do well at? Recognize that it’s a gift from God and he wants to use you for his glory? Or does your lack of confidence keep you from flourishing mightily for the Lord? May I encourage you to strive to be all that you can be for the Lord with the gifts he has given you! Surround yourself with people that recognize your gifts and can encourage you because Satan will continually tell you that you’re no good. Or else, Satan will tell you how GREAT YOU ARE so that you boast and brag of your accomplishments, instead of giving God the glory.
