Read Matthew 17:1-13
Part 1 – I Love Mountain Top Experiences.
There will be 3 Parts to this reading that I’ll do over the next three days.
Jesus took Peter, James, and his brother John, up to a high mountain by themselves. During that time Jesus was transfigured before them so that his face shone like the sun and His garment became white as light. Then behold, all of a sudden out of nowhere, appeared Moses and Elijah talking with Jesus.
Personally, I would have been so afraid because it’s not often I see people appear before me who have been dead for a long long period of time. Peter, on the other hand, got a little excited as he saw Jesus in a “new light!” Peter was having a mountaintop experience, and in his excitement he said, “Lord, it is good for us to be here; if you wish, I will make three Tabernacles, one for each of you so we can stay here.” His mountaintop experience made him want to stay there, but God’s intention was for the mountaintop experience to be shared with the world.
Have you ever been to a retreat or spiritual event and found it to be a mountain top experience for yourself? God met you in a real way. You were enlightened and didn’t want to go home. Your life was changed. In fact, you dreaded going home because home life was a disaster. Or you knew the friends you had would influence you to walk away from the Lord versus toward him. You truly dreaded it. However, God wishes to use our mountaintop experiences, not just for our benefit, but for the benefit of our family and friends. He wants us to share our transforming Mountain top experiences so that others can see Jesus in a “new light.”
This is why it is so important to be connected to a church, and a strong body of believers, so they can encourage your new grown faith so that you don’t get discouraged and return back to your old way of living: in darkness.
CHALLENGE: Have you experienced Jesus in a way that has transformed your life? If so, get connected daily to his WORD, weekly with his CHURCH, and often surround yourself with CHRISTIAN FRIENDS. Then gradually begin to connect with others so they can SEE your transforming life, and then eventually HEAR you talk about it so that they can also have a mountain top experience.
