Read Matthew 16:28 – 17:2
I Don’t Know The Answer To This Question?
In verse 27, Jesus said he will one day return to Earth and gather his church. Then in verse 28 he says, “there are some of those standing here who shall not taste death until they see the Son of Man coming in his kingdom.” This is a very controversial issue that scholars debate about. What did Jesus mean by this statement? Here’s what some of the scholars say:
1. The most popular explanation says Jesus was referring to the transfiguration which occurred six days later when Peter, James, and John were on the mountain and saw Jesus in His glory when he transfigured from his fully human form to his glorious Kingdom form, Matthew 17:1-2. “His face shown like the sun, and His garment became White as light.” The three disciples eyewitnessed this event.
Other interpretations suggest Jesus was implying one of the following:
2. That the disciples would not die before seeing his resurrected body.
3. Or when they saw the coming of his Holy Spirit at Pentecost.
4. Or when they saw the increasing number of believers of Jesus following his resurrection and return to heaven.
To be honest, none of these exclamations capture my heart. I just don’t know what’s the right answer to that question. There are things in the Bible I don’t fully know. Such as:
1. When will Jesus return? Pre-trib? Post trip? Mid trip?
2. Is speaking in tongues supposed to be an actual language or not?
1 Corinthians 13:12 reminds me that I am a human and I only know partially all truth. But a day is coming when I will know fully. But not on this Earth.
But the most important news has been made clear: Jesus came, he died, he rose again, and we who put our faith and trust in the work of Salvation Jesus provided for us, we can become one of his children.
The Old Testament prophesied of the coming Messiah and hundreds of prophecies were fulfilled through the person of Jesus proving he is who the Scripture says he is, the Son Of God, the Savior of the world. Have you put your faith and trust 100% in Jesus? Are you following him with all your heart? It’s the best decision you can ever make.
