Read Matthew 14:13-21

Give It To Jesus!

When Jesus heard that John the Baptist was killed, he withdrew in a boat to a lonely place by himself. When the multitudes heard of this, they followed him on foot. As his boat came to shore a great multitude was waiting for him. When he saw them, he felt compassion for them. He healed their sick. When evening came, the disciples told Jesus it was late so they should send the people away so they can go and buy food. Jesus responded, “They don’t need to go away, you feed them.”

The disciples were concerned because all they had were five loaves of bread and two fish. Jesus said, “Bring them to me.” He had the people set in groups and took the food, looked toward heaven and Blessed the food. Then he broke the loaves and gave it to the disciples who gave it to the multitude. They ate and were satisfied. They had 12 basketballs of leftovers and there were about 5,000 men, plus women and children.

I find this interesting. The disciples saw a huge problem: 15,000 plus people were going to be in need of food and were in a desolate place. Their solution was to send them away. Jesus’ solution was to do a miracle.

What resources were available? Five loaves and two fish. Jesus said, “Bring them to me.”

Jesus asks us to do the same. When we encounter an obstacle in life, what do we do? We fret about it. We have anxiety over it. We even complain to God about it. But our best option is to give the obstacle to Jesus. Do so expecting a miracle. Ask, “Lord, here are the limited resources that are available and I bring them to you. I make myself available, what would you have me to do?” Then listen to his voice. You may not have to do anything but watch or you may have to, by faith, prepare the stage for God’s miracle like the disciples put the people into groups. God may say, “Wait, but it’s coming.”

Our best option is giving it to Jesus, daily if we have to. Our worst options are WORRY, FRET, ANXIETY, and STRESSING about it.
