Read Matthew 13:53-58
Don’t Be Surprised When God Uses The Least Of These.
Jesus went to his hometown in Nazareth and was teaching them in their synagogue. They were initially astonished at his wisdom and power, but then their conversation began to focus on the fact that he was just a carpenter’s son. They knew his mom and dad, and his siblings, and there wasn’t anything significant about who HE WAS. So they wondered where he got his wisdom and power from and they took offense at Jesus. Why were they offended?
1. Perhaps because they “KNEW” Jesus (or so they thought). He was a carpenter’s son. He was just an ordinary boy growing up. There was nothing spectacular about him. They didn’t recognize him as a prophet. So who was he to be acting like a prophet when they “knew” he wasn’t!?!
2. Jealousy and / or Resentment crept in. He can’t be “BETTER” than us, he’s just a man!! Sadly they saw him just as a man and not the Son of God empowered by the Holy Spirit to be able to do miracles, but not just ordinary miracles. These are miracles that proved he was the Son of God fulfilling Old Testament prophecies. He was the Chosen One, the Messiah, the Savior of the world.
How do we perceive Jesus? How do we perceive God’s people who are operating under the power of the same Holy Spirit? If we see imperfections in someone are we quick to judge the validity of their Ministry? Are we also sinners saved by grace but God still uses us to show his love and power through ud? Are we perfect? I’m not and I can honestly say God still uses me to impact lives for him. Don’t get me wrong, I hate when I mess up and sin. I have to surrender to God daily and often feel unworthy to be used but thankful that by his grace and mercy he still uses me.
God help us not be so judgmental, jealous or resentful towards others that we end up missing your blessings. And help us daily surrender our lives to you. Use us to impact lives for the kingdom.
