Read Matthew 12:46-50. Who is your Father?
While Jesus was speaking to the multitude, his mother and brothers were standing outside seeking to speak to him. Then someone said to Jesus, “Your mother and brothers are standing outside seeking to speak to you.” Jesus responded to this person with a question, “Who is my mother and who are my brothers?” Jesus stretched out his hands towards his followers saying, “Behold, my mother and my brothers. For whoever does the will of my father who is in heaven, those are the ones who are my brothers and sisters and mother.”
God brought us into this world but it doesn’t automatically mean we are a part of the family of God. Because of sin, our relationship is broken with God. We have to choose whose family we want to be a part of: God’s or the devil’s. Jesus said that those who want to be a part of God’s family must do the will of God. What is the will of God?
1. That we know God first through a relationship with Jesus (John 14:6).
2. That we love God with all our heart, soul, mind, and strength and love others (Matthew 22:37-39).
3. That we have a servant’s heart (Matthew 23:11).
4. That we take up our cross daily and follow Jesus (Luke 9:23).
Are you getting the picture? Our life should be all about Jesus and doing the will of his father in Heaven.
Jesus, in John 8:44, accused the religious leaders of belonging to their father, the devil, because they didn’t carry out God’s desires but the devil’s desires, for they wanted to kill Jesus.
Who is your Father? Who’s desires are you really wanting to fulfill? Who’s will? The will of God? Or the will of your flesh / the devils? Do you take up your cross daily because you want to serve Jesus with all your heart soul mind and strength, and have him as the center of all you do? Or are you wanting to live your life in such a manner that you exclude God from certain aspects of your life? How you live your life determines whose family you belong to: God’s or the devils.
