Read Mark 9:9-13
Thank You Jesus For The Fulfillment Of The Scriptures.
After Jesus’s transfiguration, Jesus and his 3 disciples were coming down from the mountain. Jesus instructed his disciples not to tell anyone about his transfiguration until after the Son Of Man has risen from the dead. The disciples did not understand this new concept of “rising from the dead.” We understand it now because we get to read the whole story of Jesus’s birth, death, resurrection, and now sitting at the right hand of God his father in glory. The transfiguration was a picture of his coming Glory but could not happen until after suffering his death.
The disciples asked Jesus what the scribes meant when they said, “Elijah must come first.” They were referring to the statement found in Malachi 4:5-6. Jesus responds by giving meaning to the Malachi passage. He says the mission of Elijah is to come before the Messiah in order to restore the hearts of the people, meaning preparing their hearts for the coming Messiah. Jesus alludes to the fact that John the Baptist was the coming Elijah and he has already come. Plus they did to John the Baptist whatever they wished – imprisonment and death. The greatest restoration is through the work of the Messiah when he suffered and died and resurrected from the dead. But the Messiah’s resurrection into Glory could not occur until he suffered first.
Reading this drives me into a Heart of Thanksgiving.
Thank you Jesus that we get to see the whole story unfold before us through the Old Testament and the New Testament. Thank you Jesus we have laid out before us the fulfillment of the prophecies through the power of Jesus Christ, who came, who died, who rose again, who sits at the right hand of God in glory, and is one day coming again for the “church.” Thank you Jesus that we will get to be with you in glory forever in heaven.
