Kids And Christians Say The Darndest Things!
Jesus had taken Peter, James, and John up a high mountain where Jesus was transfigured before them. Jesus became radiant and exceedingly white. And all of a sudden two guys from the past appear before them: Moses and Elijah.
The three disciples were terrified! Peter, in his fear, suggested building three Tabernacles, one for Jesus, one for Moses, and one for Elijah. Saying such a thing really didn’t make rational sense. It would have nothing to do with what God was trying to accomplish on Earth through his son and the church. Jesus came to be with the people, to love on people, and eventually die for the people. Living a life of isolation from the people was not an option. Nor should it be for us.
The Lord, after hearing what Peter said, felt it was time to silence Peter with where he was going in his dialogue. The Lord said, “This is my beloved Son, listen to Him.”
As we walk with Christ, we often encounter situations that catch us off guard. Like the three disciples, fear grips us. Fear of something can cause us to say the darndest things.
When attacked by a bully, fear came upon me and I responded with some irrational words that only made my situation worse.
Fear of the unknown often arises in our hearts and minds. Sometimes, I find myself in a panic and without seeking the Lord first, I react in an impulsive manner. Rather than praying and thinking through my decisions, I say or do something that makes my situation worse.
Fear of something can take us down a dark road where we think, say, or do the darndest things. And it isn’t until we STOP and get REFOCUSED back on the Lord that we find our peace, and wisdom, and direction for our next step. STOP, REFOCUS, and LISTEN to the Lord in PRAYER and in his WORD.
Isolation from God’s word, from prayer, and from our Christian brothers and sisters is never a good rational decision. Isolation also makes things worse. It gives the devil all the power he wants to take us further down the path of fear and darkness.
What are you going through in life today? Is the fear of the unknown upon you? Take time immediately to STOP, get REFOCUSED back on the Lord through PRAYER and SCRIPTURE, and then LISTEN and OBEY!
