Read Mark 9:2-8 Part 1
God Choose Me To Faithfully Share Your Word!
One day Jesus took with him Peter, James, and John. They went up a high mountain by themselves. All at once, Jesus was transfigured before them. His garment became radiant and exceedingly White: whiter than any white imaginable.
Then Elijah and Moses appeared before them and were talking to Jesus. Seeing them, Peter was quick to speak out of terror and said, “Rabbi, it is good for us to be here; let us make three Tabernacles, one for you, and one for Moses, and one for Elijah.”
Then a cloud formed over them and God’s voice came out of the cloud, saying, “This is my beloved Son, listen to him!”
Then all at once, Jesus and his three disciples were all alone again.
There is so much about this passage that I don’t understand and I can only speculate. We will go through this passage over the next few days.
1. It seems obvious that Jesus knew he was going to have a mountain top experience and asked only three of his disciples to come along. Why only three? Why not all 12?
When I have something special going on or have a grave concern over something and need prayer, I will not contact just anyone, but those whom I see as godly and Faithful servants who will come alongside me and pray for me or with me.
Perhaps Jesus saw these three disciples as special disciples that he could trust to be faithful for that which they would see and experience, and would one day share with others. I wonder if Jesus would have chosen me and entrusted me with such a great experience and then one day trust me to share such news? But in reality, as followers of Christ, we all have experienced Jesus and his power and salvation for our soul. And he’s entrusting us to take this Gospel message to the world. The question is: am I found to be faithful in sharing the greatest news ever? I just shared the greatest news yesterday with a group of kids and teens. Then I shared how Jesus has changed my life. Did Jesus find me faithful? Was I faithful with the message he entrusted in my heart? I pray that I am always found faithful.
What are you doing today to prepare for sharing the Gospel with someone tomorrow? How you answer this question may determine how faithful you are with the word that is entrusted to you. How we answer this question may give a picture of whether or not God would call us into new opportunities for sharing his message. Yes, God is always calling us, but will I be chosen and entrusted with such great news and share it? Or will I be so occupied with the things of this world that God calls three other men because I’m not found faithful? God choose me, send me, equip me, use me. I want to be faithful!
