Don’t Expect Anything With That Attitude!
Jesus and his disciples went to the district of Dalmanutha. The Pharisees began to argue with Jesus, seeking a sign from heaven in order to test him. Jesus deeply sighed in his spirit, said, “Why does this generation seek for a sign? Truly I say to you no sign shall be given to this generation.” Then Jesus left them.
Have you ever seen someone, or perhaps a group of people, and seen it as an opportunity to show God’s love. But instead of being welcomed with loving arms, you were met with opposition. They know you are Christian and immediately get into a debate with you and want to get you upset. So what was meant to be a very loving gesture, ended up being total rejection and persecution.
Two thoughts:
1. The Bible warns us that persecution is inevitable. We will suffer from persecution and all kinds of evil will be said about us (I Peter 4:12, I John 3:13, Matthew 5:11-12).
2. Here’s a group of people who had Jesus in their midst and as a result they didn’t get to experience his love or power.
Below are two attitudes that will produce a wall between us and Jesus thus missing out on the blessings he has for us.
1. The Attitude Of Unbelief. Some are you in debate against the Lord, or constantly complain because they don’t get what they want when they want it.
2. The Attitude Of ” Me First”. This person is always expecting a miracle that will benefit them 100%. They aren’t really seeking the heart of God, but are seeking him for selfish reasons.
Such attitudes can result in missing opportunities for seeing God’s Mighty hand at work. The Lord wants to work in our lives. He wants to love us. His heart is broken when we push him away.
1. Are you one being persecuted? Persevere and consider it all joy, and don’t give up! God is at work!
2. Are you the one with one of the attitudes? God’s love is real for you. Don’t approach him in unbelief or selfishness. You’ll miss seeing his mighty display of work in your life.
