Physical Healing Versus Spiritual Healing? Which is More Important?
As Jesus and his disciples crossed the sea, they came to land at Gennesaret. When they came out of the boat, people immediately recognized Jesus, so they ran about the whole country in order to bring the sick to Jesus for healing. They even carried people on pallets. Whatever city, village, or countryside Jesus entered, people were laying the sick before him for healing and some just wanted to touch the fringe of his cloak knowing they would be healed.
When the people saw Jesus they couldn’t move fast enough to get their sick friends and family members before Jesus. There was so much physical healing of people’s bodies. It was a great testimony of the power of Jesus for our lives today.
I wish we had that same mentality, that when we are going through something we recognize Jesus as our healer and we go to him with confidence believing that he will intervene into our lives. Perhaps, even more importantly, we should desire spiritual healing in our hearts over anything physical that God can give us.
How often are we so concerned about situations on Earth that we end up losing focus of our spiritual well-being? We want something so bad on Earth to happen, that our spiritual life dies in the meantime. I’m not saying God doesn’t care about our physical, emotional, or mental well-being, or any other earthly needs. Please, always take these things to God In prayer believing in what he can do. But what I am saying, I’d rather be in a wheelchair unable to walk for the rest of my life than lose my soul in hell. I don’t want the things of this world to become more important than my growing relationship with Jesus Christ.
My dad died of cancer. We all prayed for healing but he died from it. But he also died with a new and refreshed relationship with the Lord Jesus that couldn’t be taken from him. He died with confidence of where he was going to spend eternity.
My cousin gave birth to a child who lived three days and died. The child she carried for 9 months, and had dreams of raising and growing with, was taken from her. But her faith and confidence in God stayed strong for what God DID HAVE for her FUTURE.
What healing are you striving for? Keep pursuing it, but never lose sight of God. Is the healing you’re seeking more important than your growing relationship with the Lord. Could you live without the healing you seek after? Can you trust God to give you a life beyond your desired healing on Earth?
Lord, help us all in this area!
