Read Mark 6:1-6
Which Describes Your Heart When It Comes To People Sharing The Gospel? Astonishment. Resentment. Unacceptance. Unbelief.
Jesus went out to his hometown in Nazareth and his disciples followed him. On the day of the Sabbath, Jesus went to the Synagogue and began to teach and even heal some of the sick. The response of the listeners were:
1. They were astonished by his words full of wisdom and his miracles.
2. They resent Jesus because to them he was just an ordinary person with no background of being a man called by God. They knew him as a child growing up and there was nothing significant about him then and thus refused to see anything significant about him now. As a result:
3. They refused to accept him as a man called by God to do great things.
4. They were full of unbelief.
Jesus made the comment that a man called by God is often honored by others, except by those from the same hometown.
First let me say, I really don’t care what your background is or how insignificant you feel you are. God wants to use you. In fact, Scripture says (I Corinthians 1:26-29) that God chooses the foolish things of this world along with the weak and lowly in order to quiet the wise, the strong, and the highly esteemed ones. Don’t ever let anyone look down upon you when you are following the Lord.
Who is someone you look up to as a man or woman of God and you support what God is doing in their lives?
Chris Martin is someone who has inspired me. He has been faithful to the Lord and has an evangelistic heart to reach lost souls and the hurting. I look forward to hearing his testimonies.
But if I may be honest, there are times when I show resentment when I hear of someone traveling the world and impacting lives all over. It’s those times I have to check my heart to make sure it is pure before God. It is those times I have to make sure I don’t fall into resentment or unacceptance.
I need to focus on being faithful to the calling God has on my life where I’m at today. I need to be faithful in touching the lives of those that God puts in my path.
Lord help me to be excited for those who Minister the gospel no matter who they are and where they travel. Reveal any resentment, unacceptance, or unbelief that rises within my heart.
Help me to be faithful to the calling you have in my life. Help me to be a great prayer support to others who are also called! Amen!
