Read Mark 14:1-2
THIS BLOWS MY MIND!!!
Versus 1-2 says, “Now the Passover and the Festival Of The Unleavened Bread were only two days away and the chief priests and the teachers of the law were scheming to arrest Jesus secretly and kill him. They said, ‘But not during the festival or the people may riot.'”
Generally speaking, the people you’d least expect to want to see Jesus killed are those most associated with the study of God’s Word. But that wasn’t the case. The chief priests and the teachers of the law were steadfast and focused strongly on doing what was ever possible to try and find the opportunity to arrest and kill Jesus.
THIS BLOWS MY MIND! These men study God’s word and yet killing became a viable option to taking care of a person who has gained more attention than themselves. I can’t get over that thought process! They want to kill the very person who is the fulfillment of God’s Old Testament prophecies. How did these educated men miss that. Even the uneducated disciples clearly saw that Jesus was the Messiah.
The chief priests and the teachers of the law wanted to kill someone that gained more attention and power than themselves. Even if Jesus wasn’t the Son of God, is that how we are to treat someone who is seemingly more popular than us? Is murder really a viable option? NO!!!
Let’s look at our own lives:
As followers of Christ, we are to be like Jesus. Love must be our greatest weapon!
1. Let us love those who attack us, not retaliate!
2. Let us lovingly do good to those who hate us, not scheme an attack.
3. Let us lovingly pray for those who mistreat us versus gossiping about them.
4. Let us lovingly celebrate with those who seem to be more popular than we are in serving the Lord.
5. Let us lovingly rejoice with those who seem to be reaching more people for Jesus than we are.
6. Instead may we be faithful to the calling God has for our lives and worry so much less on the call he has on the lives of others. I struggle enough to be faithful to God’s calling on my life. Why do I waste my energy on worrying about how well others are doing with the calling God has on their lives? Why do I find myself filled with jealousy, bitterness, and hatefulness when others seem to be doing better than I am for Jesus?
We are the Body Of Christ! Let us lovely come alongside one another versus making it a competition. It Blows My Mind to think I would be like the teachers of the law when I’m supposed to be a godly man for Jesus.
