Read Mark 13:24-37
“Ready Or Not, Here I Come!”
This passage reminds me of playing hide and go seek as a kid. We count to 100, and then go looking for those hiding. We would always preface it by saying, ‘Here I come ready or not.” Or we would say, “Ready or not, here I come.”
It was a fun game to play. But in this passage, it’s not a game. One day Christ will return. Jesus makes it very clear and he says when he comes we better be ready. He says these three things:
Be on guard! Be alert! Watch!
Jesus’s return is forthcoming, but since we don’t know when it will occur we’re told to be on guard! Be alert! And watch! I want to take heed to what these three warnings are saying. I have to be ready at all times and guard myself from temptations. I can’t let the devil’s deception capture my heart away from the Lord. I have to stay steadfast in my faith. I need to endure to the end. I have to fight the good fight because once Jesus comes, there’s no more opportunity to change. It’s not a game that you get to play over again. We are given the warning to be ready daily. In fact, if we really believe Christ is going to return, then I’m saying we’ll want to make sure the people around us are also ready to go into the presence of the Lord. So may we be a light for Jesus to a dark world in helping people come to know Jesus as their Lord and Savior. May we be that role model to them daily!
