Read Mark 13:14-22
Run! Flee! Get away!
Jesus mentions the “Abomination Desolation” which is the coming destruction of Jerusalem and the temple. This is going to occur because the temple was defiled by the people. When it comes it will be horrific. Jesus even says when it happens the people should flee to the mountains. Flee immediately! Get away and don’t go back to get anything out of the house. The desolation will be brutal and dreadful for the people especially the pregnant women and those nursing. Many see the fulfillment of this in 70 AD when the Romans attacked and destroyed the temple and the people.
Once again, Jesus warns against listening to those claiming to be the Messiah and even performing miracles to deceive us. We are instructed not to listen to them. To do so defiles us and sets us up for a coming judgment which will be dreadful for those who reject Christ.
So we all need to learn from this passage. Lord help us not to be deceived by false teachings. Help us not to allow our bodies to be defiled by the deception of the devil. Just as the people in Jerusalem faced a dreadful desolation, so we, who are not following Christ, will also face a desolation on Judgment Day.
May we flee from the evil that tempts us. May we see how dreadful and horrific sin is and not have anything to do with it.
Lord forgive me of my sins and help me to see the life that you offer me that brings glory to your name and impacts lives. Help me not to lose focus of you but joyfully follow you. If a temptation comes my way help me to flee from it, even run from it!
