Read Mark 10:13-16
DON’T Read Your Bible To Your Kids. DON’T Pray With Them. And DON’T Take Them To Church.
People were bringing little children to Jesus for him to place his hands on them but the disciples rebuked them. When Jesus saw this, he became indignant with the disciples and rebuked them. Jesus responded by saying, “Truly I tell you, anyone who will not receive the Kingdom of God like a little child will never enter it.” Jesus then took the children in his arms and blessed them.
Usually when I read this, my focus is about having a simple Faith like a child with no expectations and without legalistic thinking. My focus goes on love that is innocent and accepting of others. But today my focus was all about parents with their children.
Parents, what are your priorities in life when it comes to your children? Do you have a sense of URGENCY to read God’s word with them and pray with them? Do you have any sense of URGENCY to get them connected to a church for spiritual growth and development, along with fellowship with other believers?
Jesus was indignant toward the disciples when they tried to k the children from coming to Jesus. Hearing this would cause a wake-up call in my life. I would want to make sure Jesus isn’t indignant with me as a parent today when there is limited priority on reading God’s word to our children, and little or no emphasis in praying with them or getting them connected to church fellowship. Parents in our culture today are so consumed with the expectations of our sports-filled world. You must be at practice! You must be involved in as many sports as possible! Yes, if you are in a sport, be committed to it. But life isn’t all about sports.
The kingdom of God is Not based on how many sports you play throughout the year. Life is all about a relationship with Jesus and that relationship needs to overflow in everything that we do and say. That relationship is not meant to be replaced with a lot of stuff, including sports.
How would your life change with your kids tomorrow if you started to prioritize God’s word in their lives along with prayer and Christian fellowship in the church?
Better yet, how would your life change if you set the example for your children to follow?
Just as Jesus blessed the children brought to him, so he wants to bless your children through his Holy Spirit in order to empower them with value worth and purpose. DON’T prevent your children from coming to Jesus!
