Let’s Hope They Burn In Hell!
Time is soon approaching for Jesus’s Death, Resurrection, and Ascension into heaven. So he’s on a mission to go to Jerusalem. He has to go through a Samaritan village and the people did not welcome him because he was headed to Jerusalem. So what was their problem? Why didn’t they welcome Jesus passing through?
1. Perhaps because he was a Jew since Jews and Samaritans hated each other.
2. Perhaps they were hoping he’d stay for a while because of his known miracles. But they took an offense to him because they felt “he had more important things to do.”
Yet, if they realized that it was necessary for Jesus to go Jerusalem so he could die for the sins of the world, they would have been more supportive and appreciative. However, they were blind to the fact.
The disciples were so upset at the Samaritan’s reaction that they asked Jesus if they should call down fire on them (like Elijah did in the Old Testament)? But Jesus rebuked them because Jesus saw the Samaritans as lost sheep without a Shepherd / Savior.
This seems to be the problem today in the lives of many. People are blind to the fact that Jesus loves them and died for them. Many are offended at the mention of Jesus and want nothing to do with him. They’re blind to the truth. In fact, some Christians respond with anger and hatredness and wish evil to fall upon them.
A man does a podcast daily and speaks on political issues of our day. He often tells his listeners he’s a Christian. One day, he was so frustrated with one political party that he “hated” them and “hoped they burned in hell.” He repeated this three or four times.
Just as those who oppose Jesus are blind to the truth, so we must be careful not to become so self-righteous that we forget we once was lost in our sin and Jesus saved us. Therefore, may we show the same Love, Compassion, and Mercy to the Lost and pray for them to see the truth versus wanting to call down fire on them in hopes they burn in hell.
