Read Luke 9:49-50
Pride and Jealousy are Killers.
It’s interesting how John, Jesus’s disciple, approached Jesus saying, “Master, we saw someone driving out demons in your name and we tried to stop him, because he’s not one of us!” I love Jesus’s response, “Do not stop him, for whoever is not against you is for you.”
Why was John so concerned with this guy doing Ministry in the name of Jesus? Perhaps it was because of some of the same reasons we are concerned of others doing Ministry in Jesus’ name.
1. PRIDE: “Hey, we are the ones that started this ministry, not this other guy.” We want people to see how we started all this and we hate to see others get the attention over us.
2. JEALOUSY: We want the spotlight. So to see others doing so well makes us jealous.
I have aspirations of being used in certain ways for the Kingdom of God. I recognize that I have weaknesses and using social media is something I’ve never grasped. I would love to use social media more to help promote Christianity.
So I feel the temptation is always there to be prideful or jealous when I see others excelling in areas that I wish I was excelling. I have to constantly check myself.
I want to always be thankful and rejoice in what God is doing in and through the CHURCH. I don’t want the focus to be on what “I’m doing” but on what God is doing.
