Read Luke 9:44-48
I “THINK” I’m Greater Than You!
Jesus told his disciples to “listen carefully” and told them that he was going to be delivered into the hands of men. They didn’t understand what Jesus was saying for it was hidden from them, nor did they ask him.
How ironic that Jesus is talking about his death, doing an unselfish act where he is going to humble himself to the will of his father and die for the sins of the world. Then the disciples start to argue over which of them would be the greatest. Such conversation was void of the qualities that give merit of the greatest: Humility! A Slave or Servant’s Heart! Selfless Acts!
This resulted in Jesus using a little child to make his point that the greatest among them is the one who is seen as the least. A humble servant or slave is a great example of one who is seen as the least.
My wife, Karin, is a great example of someone who is the “least among us.” When my mom was alive, Karin would take her lunch break at school and drive to my mom’s house and eat her lunch there. It was a selfless act. She would eat a quick meal and then help my mom with a quick errand that my mom needed done. She did this till my mom died of a heart attack.
And when Karin’s mom was sick, she dropped everything to take care of her mom, to visit her at the hospital, go the extra mile to ensure her mom’s needs were met. She did this till her mom died. And now her dad is in Corry Manor and she visits him almost everyday and takes care of getting him magazines, candy and snacks, pay his bills, etc.
She also is quick to drop everything to help a family member or give money to people in need. What she does for others is very rarely seen or known by others. As a pastor and a speaker a lot of people get to see and hear things I do. Probably some think I’m a “great” person. I can’t help but think that Karin will be the greatest of us two when we enter the kingdom of heaven. She’s a perfect example of a selfless person.
