Read Luke 9:28-36
Who Said Prayer Wasn’t Important?
One day, Jesus took Peter, John, and James with him up to a mountain to pray. As he was praying, the appearance of his face changed and his clothes became as bright as a flash of lightning. Then two men appeared in glorious splendor, Moses and Elijah, and they spoke to Jesus about his upcoming departure in Jerusalem: referring to his Death, Resurrection, and Ascension.
When Peter saw these men standing in glory he spoke out of fear and excitement, but God interrupted Peter saying, “This is my son, whom I chosen, listen to him. At that time, Moses and Elijah had departed.
SOME THOUGHTS:
1. Why did Jesus choose just Peter, John, and James for this glorious event? Was there something special about their faith, their commitment, they’re hunger and thirst for the Lord? I don’t know, but I know for me, I have a hunger and thirst to serve the Lord and to be a part of his plan to reach lost souls. I can’t help but think that these three disciples had a certain hunger and desire for the things of the Lord so that Jesus chose them.
2. Why did Moses and Elijah speak to Jesus about his upcoming departure? Why did God deem this necessary? Did The human side of Jesus need ASSURANCE and ENCOURAGEMENT that the path he was on was the “right path?” I know for me that I appreciate God’s affirmation and encouragement when I struggle knowing where the spirit is leading me.
3. All of this started with Jesus saying, “Let’s go pray!” It was during their prayer time that they encountered this glorious event. I can give testimony after testimony after testimony that it’s during my prayer time and prayer walks that I encounter revelation in my heart for future messages, future vision, insight for counseling, conviction of sins … It’s then I have an encounter with the Lord and His Holy Spirit. Who said prayer wasn’t important?
So if I can encourage you: Be praying people! Have a hunger and thirst for all God has for you. God does have a plan for your lives and he will bring you affirmation and encouragement when needed.
